Angling For Mindfulness

Tight Lines uses sea angling as the vehicle to help alleviate the growing pressures and struggles within the current social and economic climate of Cornwall with full access for all adults.

The main focus of this community project, is on those of adult age who are experiencing difficulty and issues with mental health, including PTSD, anxiety, stress and depression.

We strive to help through angling workshops and demonstrating a new life skill, whilst engaging with like minded individuals, creating its very own angling community.

Tight Lines hopes to help as many people in Cornwall as possible, using our biggest ally, the sea.

What We Do

  • Tony Portas

    Co-Founder

Tony Portas is a founding member of Tight Lines, a CIC project located in Cornwall that aims to utilise fishing as a tool to improve the mental health and overall well-being of Cornish individuals. With over 50 years of experience in both fresh and saltwater fishing, he has been fortunate enough to build a growing tackle business in the heart of the Lizard Peninsula, which has connected him with a network of lasting friendships throughout Cornwall and beyond. Tony is a qualified Level 2 angling coach.

Despite personal struggles over the past two years, Tony has experienced unconditional support from the local and wider fishing communities. Through fishing, he has found a means to disconnect from the daily grind and has become an advocate for the power of fishing to improve mental health and well-being. He co-founded Tight Lines with the mission to use fishing to improve outcomes for those who suffer from mental health issues, both locally in Cornwall and ultimately throughout the wider fishing community.

Whether on a boat, beach, rock, or in the shop, Tony invites you to join him in sharing his passion for fishing and its potential to make a positive impact in people's lives. Tight lines
